Participants Assemble 5,000 Bags of School Supplies for Youth in Need
Grammy® Winning singer-songwriter Ciara
shared the spotlight with youth volunteers today in a national effort to
empower teens to give back to the community. Ciara, joined by Chaske
Spencer of Twilight and singer Leah Renee, worked side-by-side
with volunteers during the 2nd Annual Staples/Do
Something 101 national school supply drive event at The
Children’s Aid Society Dunlevy Milbank Boys & Girls Club in New
York. The group filled 5,000 bags with notebooks, calculators, binders
and other back-to-school essentials, which will be donated to local
students in need in time for the upcoming school year.
“It’s really exciting to be part of the Do
Something 101 campaign and to motivate teens across the country to
get involved,” Ciara
said. “Teens can make a big difference in another student’s life by
giving school supplies and their time. The volunteers working here today
are incredible.”
Ciara teamed up with DoSomething.org
and Staples,
Inc. (Nasdaq: SPLS) – the world’s largest office products company –
to launch the Do Something 101 campaign encouraging teens to make this
summer count by volunteering and contributing supplies that benefit
local students. Staples, which kicked off the drive with a $125,000
donation in July, is accepting donations at all U.S. stores through
Sept. 19.
“The teens who volunteered for our New York event are stellar role
models and inspire peers – and all of us alike – to support our
communities,” said Demos Parneros, president of U.S. stores at Staples.
“Teens throughout the nation still can donate supplies at any Staples
store to help make someone’s school year successful.”
