LAVAL, QC, Aug. 4 /CNW Telbec/ - Mercator Transport Group Corporation
("Mercator Transport") (TSX-V: GMT) announces the appointment of Mr. William
Spurr as Chairman of the Board. Mr. Spurr will be replacing Mr. Bernard
Mercier as Chairman as of August 3, 2009. Mr. Mercier remains member of the
Board.
Commenting this appointment, Mr. Jean-Pierre Apelian, President and CEO,
declared: "We are proud Mr. William Spurr has accepted to contribute his
extensive experience in the transportation industry to the position of
Chairman of the Board. I would also like to give a warm thank you to Bernard
Mercier for the dedication with which he accomplished his duties as Chairman
of the Board since Mercator Transport's listing."
Mr. William Spurr has been a member of the board of directors of Mercator
Transport since November 2008. He has held several executive positions at
Bombardier and its subsidiaries from 1992 to 2008, for which he led
significant projects in the transportation industry. Prior to 1992, Mr. Spurr
was Director, International Business Development, as well as Chief Projects
Engineer for UTDC Inc, a corporation acquired by Bombardier, and held various
positions as project manager for major engineering corporations, including in
Africa and in the Middle-East. Mr. Spurr is a member of the Professional
Engineers Ontario and of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D) and
holds a Master of Science degree in structural engineering from the University
of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.
