Ingersoll-Rand plc's Board of Directors today declared a quarterly dividend of $0.07 cents per ordinary share, payable September 1, 2009, to shareowners of record on August 18, 2009.
As previously announced on March 30, 2009, Ingersoll Rand's Board of Directors authorized a reduction in the quarterly dividend to $0.07 per share from $0.18 per share, effective with the September 2009 dividend payment.
"We recognize the importance of the dividend to our shareowners," said Herbert L. Henkel, chairman and chief executive officer. "However, the reduced payment will enhance liquidity and our ability to pay down debt in the short term and make investments for our future growth."
Ingersoll Rand (NYSE:IR) has paid consecutive quarterly cash dividends on its common shares since 1919 and annual dividends since 1910.
