NEW YORK, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- McGraw-Hill Education announced today that it has expanded its strategic alliance with Amazon.com, Inc., to introduce the publisher's higher education content on Kindle and Kindle DX, Amazon's portable readers that wirelessly download books, blogs, magazines and newspapers to a high-resolution electronic paper display. This collaboration builds upon the wide range of McGraw-Hill Professional titles, which have been available through the digital device since its inception.
"McGraw-Hill is committed to developing innovative learning solutions and options to empower students to achieve academic success," said Ed Stanford, president, McGraw-Hill Higher Education. "This collaboration with Amazon enables McGraw-Hill to increase the reach of its digital content through the Kindle DX. The modern student body increasingly requires digital access and capabilities, and we are pleased to be strengthening our partnership with Amazon to help meet these critical needs."
"We're thrilled to be working with McGraw-Hill to expand the selection of content available on Kindle and Kindle DX," said Laura Porco, director of Kindle books. "Our focus is on providing our customers, including our student customers, with the best possible experience, and we're excited to be able to offer them this new higher education content."
In addition to the over 3,000 professional business, medical and technical titles currently available for Kindle and Kindle DX, McGraw-Hill will now be offering over 100 top selling higher education titles in business, economics, science, math, humanities, foreign languages, and social sciences.
As e-books become a household term across the nation, America's colleges and universities are embracing this digital learning solution to achieve improved student retention and pass rates while at the same time lowering the overall cost of instruction.
"The Kindle DX enables our students to access their course content anytime, anywhere," said Ed Lazowska, the professor of computer science & engineering at the University of Washington. "We look forward to seeing how the device affects the engagement of both students and faculty in the educational experience."
McGraw-Hill Higher Education content will be used in Amazon's on-campus trial programs to make Kindle DX devices available to students this fall. Participating colleges and universities will distribute hundreds of Kindle DX devices to students spread across a broad range of academic disciplines.
