Multiple Certifications Satisfy Critical Requirement for Defense
and Civilian Government Procurements
Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:JNPR), the leader in high-performance
networking, today announced routing, switching and security solutions
that have achieved Common Criteria (ISO 15408) certification for
information assurance and security at Evaluation Assurance Level 3
(EAL-3). Common Criteria certifications are considered a prerequisite in
many government procurements in the U.S. and abroad, and reflect
extensive evaluations of the security features and capabilities of
information technology and networking products in clearly specified,
real-world operating environments.
Developed by the governments of Canada, France, Germany, the
Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the U.S., and now accepted by more
than 25 countries, the Common Criteria international standard
(officially known as "The Common Criteria for Information Technology
Security Evaluation") defines functional and security assurance
requirements that are tested by independent laboratories. Juniper
routers and switches were certified by the UK Certification Body within
Communications-Electronics Security Group (CESG), the Information
Assurance arm of U.K.’s Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ).
Other Juniper routers and security solutions were tested and certified
by Australia’s Defence Signals Directorate.
The Juniper routers and switches attaining Common Criteria EAL-3
certification from the UK Certification Body include the M Series
Multiservice Edge Routers (M7i, M10i, M40e, M120, and M320); the T
Series Core Routers (T320, T640, T1600); the MX Series Ethernet Services
Routers (MX240, MX480, and MX960); and the EX Series Ethernet Switches
(EX3200 and EX4200). Juniper Networks J Series Services Routers (J2320,
J2350, J4350, and J6350) were certified at EAL-3 in Australia, as were
the recently announced Juniper Networks SRX5600 and SRX5800 Series
Services Gateways.
All of these solutions were certified running JUNOS® Software 9.3. JUNOS
Software is a single source network operating system integrating
routing, switching and security services.
“Governments and industries around the world use Common Criteria to
ensure rigorous and standardized evaluations of IT solutions in actual
deployments,” said Brian Roach, Juniper Networks vice president, Federal
(U.S.). “Juniper has been able to leverage its single-source network
operating system model to achieve these high levels of information
assurance certifications simultaneously across a wide range of routing,
switching and security solutions.”
EAL-3 evaluates a product in design stage, with independent verification
of the developer's testing results, and evaluates the developer's checks
for vulnerabilities, the development environmental controls and the
product's configuration management.
