NYSE:

Fannie Mae, down 13 cents at 66 cents

The government-sponsored mortgage finance company posted another huge quarterly loss and said it will tap $11 billion in new federal aid.

Colonial BancGroup Inc., down 21 cents at 49 cents

The bank is under criminal investigation by the government over alleged accounting irregularities at its mortgage warehouse lending unit.

Beazer Homes USA Inc., up 51 cents at $3.82

The homebuilder said order trends showed signs of improvement and cut its quarterly loss sharply after reducing its debt load.

American International Group Inc., up $4.61 at $27.14

The insurer, which has received $182.5 billion in bailout loans from the government, reported its first quarterly profit since 2007.

CBS Corp., up $2.27 at $10.81

The government's "cash-for-clunkers" program jump-started automotive ad buying, which bodes well for sales, the media company said.

Merck & Co., up 74 cents at $30.10

Shareholders backed a $41.1 billion buyout of smaller rival Schering-Plough to create the world's No. 2 pharmaceutical company.

NASDAQ:

Crocs Inc., up $1.22 at $5.49

Sales fell, but the maker of colorful plastic sandals still beat analyst estimates with a smaller-than-expected adjusted loss.

Leap Wireless International Inc., down $5.53 at $17.06

The communications company missed analyst expectations with a second-quarter loss that grew wider due to debt-related expenses.
