Joins initiatives in more than 300 locations nationwide to
recognize and support the work of Community Health Centers to provide
health care to the underserved
Theme of the week is -- Celebrating America’s Health Centers:
Where
ACCESS and QUALITY CARE Begin
Unison Health Plan of the Capital Area is celebrating and recognizing
the community health centers in Washington, DC in support of National
Health Center Week, August 9-15, led by the National Association of
Community Health Centers (NACHC).
The effort includes donations, gifts and recognition awards. Unison
Health Plan associates will visit the majority of the health centers to
deliver the awards. They will also deliver a recognition item to the
District of Columbia Primary Care Association (DCPCA).
“DCPCA works to improve the health of DC’s residents by ensuring that
they receive high quality primary health care regardless of their
ability to pay and we are very proud to recognize them during this week
of celebration. It is critical that we continue our collaboration with
them on care coordination for the vulnerable populations we serve in
this city,” said Charlisa Watson, executive director, Unison Health Plan
of the Capital Area.
Community Health Centers serve 18 million people at more than 7,000
sites nationwide, providing quality health care. This was documented
recently in a study by The George Washington University Medical Center,
focusing on CHCs supported by AmeriChoice corporate parent, UnitedHealth
Group. The study concluded that CHCs can and do provide high-quality
health care that equals or exceeds care provided in the private sector.
“As a partner with the Department of Health Care Finance in DC Healthy
Families (Medicaid Program), the DC Health Care Safety Net (Alliance
Program) and other government-sponsored health care programs, we are
committed to improving access to quality, affordable health care for the
most vulnerable populations in America,” said Scott Bowers, Health Plan
president.
