Aug. 12--TUPELO -- Locally owned Overstock Outlet has opened on McCullough Boulevard with a store full of merchandise leftover from big box retailers.
The most recent shipment is from Dick's Sporting Goods, said manager Jeff Blyth. The merchandise includes hunting, fishing, tailgating and sporting equipment.
Blyth said the products are mainly those the retailer couldn't sell or that have damaged packaging. It's sold 50 percent to 70 percent below the suggested retail price, Blyth added.
The store, located inside the former D.C. Mills & Co. space at 1715 McCullough Blvd., is owned by Mac Monteith of Oxford. It's in the same shopping center as the GO Creative Arts & Athletics and Trails & Treads.
It has five employees and is open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Heavy shopping days
Blyth compared the hours to national retailer Tuesday Morning, saying the owners chose the heavy shopping days to be open and to close the other days to allow for restocking.
He said the merchandise will vary with each shipment. Sometimes it may come from a sporting goods retailer and other times it may come from a general retailer such as Costco or Target.
So far, sales have been good. Blyth said he's sold a lot of canopies, golfing equipment and backpacks.
