JDSU Introduces the Industry's First 40G Field Test Solution to Support OTN Multiplexing
Monday, August 17, 2009 8:31 AM

MILPITAS, Calif., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- JDSU today introduced new functionality for the T-BERD(R)/MTS-8000 40G Transport module. One of the lightest and smallest 40G testers on the market, the T-BERD/MTS-8000 now supports 43G OTN multiplexing, removing one of the final impediments to using 43G circuits for carrier traffic interconnects.

The award-winning T-BERD/MTS-8000 platform provides the market's most complete service installation and maintenance test solution by addressing all fiber characterization, optical spectrum analysis, service verification, and troubleshooting needs, from 1.5M to 43G, in one platform. The 40G Transport module also includes all T-BERD/MTS-8000 mainframe hallmarks, including a large, integrated touch screen and easy-to-use GUI in a rugged, compact and scalable form factor.

"JDSU is a pioneer in 40/43G test, introducing its first solutions in 2002. We are continually seeking new ways to help our customers simplify the reliable expansion of their transport networks," said Lars Friedrich, vice president and general manager in JDSU's Communications Test and Measurement business segment. "With the continued need for increased bandwidth, service providers can now rely on the JDSU T-BERD(R)/MTS-8000 to deploy and troubleshoot 40/43G links for carrier interconnect and client-side applications instead of limiting the use of this high-speed technology to the core network."

Specifically, the new functionality provides ODU multiplexing support, enabling service providers to test OTU containers within a 43G OTN circuit at service installation and generate test reports that verify service level agreements.

Enabling peering service providers to test ODU1 and ODU2 containers across network-to-network (NNI) interfaces, the new features also deliver Intrusive Through Mode testing for both SONET/SDH and OTN rates, enhancing the ability to troubleshoot and characterize circuits running at 40/43G. Intrusive Through Mode enables service providers to test how equipment connected to the other end of their highest speed links reacts to and recovers from service disruption events. With support for over 35 different triggers, the 40G Transport module offers one of the most complete solutions for characterizing and troubleshooting high-speed, 40/43G SONET/SDH and OTN networks in the field.

JDSU provides one of the industry's most complete 40G test portfolios, including the ONT, TestPoint and Hydra platforms for lab and production environments. ONT and TestPoint testers are used in lab environments and were involved in some of the industry's first 40G field turn-ups; the ONT was the industry's first all-in-one tester for 40/43G, including jitter and wander.

With field applications for servicing Metro Core telecom networks, wireless/cable switch centers and backhaul networks, government telecommunications and network equipment manufacturer field installation and support groups, JDSU T-BERD/MTS Transport test solutions offer NEMs and service providers worldwide the confidence to successfully build, deploy, and manage Ethernet and Business Class solutions.
