Interactive Site Marks Milestone as 100th site launched on Fry, Inc.'s Open Commerce Platform
ANN ARBOR, Mich., Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Fry, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of MICROS Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: MCRS) and a leading e-commerce solutions provider, today announced the launch of a new e-commerce Web site for Hastings Entertainment, Inc., a leading multimedia entertainment retailer with a prodigious assortment of new and used books, videos, music and games.
Hastings Entertainment's new online storefront, www.gohastings.com, is the 100th site Fry has built on its Open Commerce Platform(TM) (OCP), an e-commerce solution that provides retailers with the tools to expand their e-commerce business. With OCP, the new Hastings Entertainment site includes flexible merchandising and promotional tools such as cross sells and product reviews, as well as a more interactive customer experience with enhanced browsing and buying capabilities.
"Our goal is to drive more interaction on the site and make it a fun experience for our customers," said Owen Marmaduke, director of e-commerce, of Hastings Entertainment. "With the new Hastings Entertainment storefront, we offer a distinct online shopping experience that could only come from the Hastings brand."
The new Hastings site was designed with rich, dynamic technology to engage customers in an interactive and surprising way. The site will also provide a stronger connection between the in-store and online customer experience, with new checkout options for customers who wish to place pre-orders for upcoming new products.
"Fry recognizes the importance of an engaging customer experience and how it relates to translating Hastings Entertainment's brand online," said David Fry, president of Fry, Inc. "We designed the site to reflect the interactive nature of the Hastings brand and we are excited to launch a site that will be a leading destination for multimedia entertainment products."
Fry's 100th OCP implementation debuts as the company celebrates its 15-year anniversary in 2009. OCP, which was introduced in February 2004 at the eTail Conference, was solely developed by Fry and can be supported by several servers and systems including any J2EE compliant application server, JDBC compliant database server and Java capable operating system.
"OCP has proven to be a valuable foundation for retailers and manufacturers such as Hastings," said Rudy Pataro, chief technology officer of Fry. "We are committed to continuous innovation on the OCP platform allowing our clients to continue to grow and meet the needs of their customers."
