Aug. 19, 2009 (Business Wire) -- ZOLL Medical Corporation (Nasdaq GS: ZOLL), a manufacturer of resuscitation devices and related software solutions, announced today that the Pittsburgh Technology Council has named ZOLL Lifecor Corporation, a Pittsburgh, Pa.-based subsidiary of ZOLL Medical Corporation, that manufacturers and sells the LifeVest® wearable defibrillator, as a 2009 Tech 50 Awards finalist.
The Pittsburgh Technology Council’s Tech 50 Awards recognize southwestern Pennsylvania’s technology and thought-leading companies, which are innovation pioneers in technology-based industries that have become the backbone of Pittsburgh’s new economy.
The Pittsburgh Technology Council nominated ZOLL Lifecor as a Tech 50 Awards finalist based largely on the Company’s dramatic revenue growth over the past three years. In addition, the ZOLL Lifecor nomination was based on the Company’s accomplishments in the areas of technological innovation, job creation, and employee retention.
“It is a great honor to have ZOLL recognized as one of the Pittsburgh Technology Council’s Tech 50 Awards finalist,” said Richard A. Packer, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ZOLL. “We are especially pleased with the performance of our LifeVest business, with sales growth above 50 percent for each of the last three years. This unique, innovative product continues to gain acceptance with cardiologists and has the potential to become a standard of care for treating patients at risk of sudden cardiac arrest.”
According to Audrey Russo, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Pittsburgh Technology Council, “We had a significant number of nominations this year and the judges found selecting only 50 finalists a daunting task. Our judges were impressed by ZOLL Lifecor’s accomplishments and the innovative work they do to further not only their own organization, but also the Pittsburgh region as a whole.”
The LifeVest wearable defibrillator is worn by patients at risk for sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), allowing their physicians time to assess their long-term arrhythmic risk and make appropriate plans. The LifeVest is lightweight and easy to wear, allowing patients to return to their activities of daily living, while having the peace of mind that they are protected from SCA. The LifeVest may be prescribed for patients following a heart attack, before or after bypass surgery or stent placement, as well as for those with cardiomyopathy or congestive heart failure that places them at particular risk. It may also be prescribed for patients whose comorbidities, including infections caused by placement of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), prevent them undergoing immediate implant surgery for an ICD. To date, the LifeVest has been prescribed to more than 16,000 patients. For more information, go to www.zolllifecor.com or call 1-800-543-3267.
