County to Discuss Elections, Budget

Aug. 24--Kerr County officials have been preparing for the Nov. 3 General Election.

During their regular meeting today, county commissioners will continue setting the stage when they consider approving central counting station personnel and appointing an early voting ballot board judge for one term. They also will set the number of appointments the judge can make.

The first day to apply for a ballot by mail is Sept. 4. The last is Oct. 27.

Also, the last day to register to vote is Oct. 5. Voters can register at the Tax Assessor's Office in the Kerr County Courthouse and the courthouse annex in Ingram.

Early voting, Oct. 19-Oct. 30, will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kathleen C. CaillouxTheater,

910 Main St.

Applications to vote by mail are available at the Secretary of State's Web site at www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/forms/a5-14.pdf.

Forms must be mailed to Early Voting Clerk Diane Bolin, 700 Main St. Suite 124, Kerrville, TX, 78028.

In other business, the county commission will:

--Conduct the final hearing on the Texas Community Development Program Area Colonia Study and Plan.

--Consider a resolution to adopt requirements for residential inspections in the county.

--Consider accepting an offer of funding from Alamo Resource Conservation and Development Area for use in mitigating OSSF problems and providing sewer service to property owners who missed deadlines in earlier phases of the Kerrville South Wastewater Project.

--Consider items pertaining to the November General Election.

--Consider an appeal to the Texas Water Development Board on Desired Future Conditions set by Groundwater Management Area 9 for the Edwards-Trinity (Plateau), Ellenberger and Hickory aquifers. Commissioners also will consider approving a resolution supporting the Plateau (Region J) Water Planning Group's appeal and authorizing members to represent Kerr County in the appeal process.

--Consider work on private property.

--Set public hearings on the county's fiscal year 2009-10 budget, as well as the proposed tax rate. Budget information is available online at www.co.kerr.tx.us/notices.

--Set a public hearing for 10 a.m. Sept. 14 regarding the county clerk's annual Records Archival written plan.

--Set a public hearing for the Revision of Plat for Lot 3 in the Heritage Park Subdivision (Section 1, volume 3, page 96).

--Discussion of items in executive session, including the resignations of several Kerr County Historical Commission members and the continuing service of all of those who remain, and an Animal Control personnel matter.

Commissioners' court meetings begin at 9 a.m. and are open to the public.
