Aug. 26, 2009 (Business Wire) -- RockTenn Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jim Rubright is one of the 50 most powerful people in the global pulp and paper industry in 2009, according to RISI, the leading information provider for the global forest products industry. RISI published the industry’s second annual “Power List” in the July issue of one of its leading magazines, Pulp and Paper International (PPI).

In August, Rubright was also nominated as a Top Five Finalist in the category of 2009 Global CEO of the Year, for the annual PPI Awards, to be held in Munich, Germany this October.

The Power List is based on nominations from RISI's editors, engineers and economists, as well as from professionals and experts from within the industry. This year's List is an international representation of not only pulp and paper industry producers, but also leading figures from all parts of the paper industry supply chain, such as representatives from suppliers, labor, associations, government, non-governmental organizations and analysts.

RISI views itself as well positioned to give a complete overview of the industry, given its offices are based in all regions of the world and its clients and readers come from all areas of the industry. Regarding the selection of Rubright, the editors commented, “Lawyer trained, but also an astute businessman, Rubright has made some shrewd acquisitions for RockTenn, turning what was once a marginal player into a significant one in the packaging market.”

Rubright heads one of North America’s leading manufacturers of paperboard, containerboard, consumer and corrugated packaging and merchandising displays.

Before joining RockTenn, Rubright served as Executive Vice President of Sonat, Inc., a diversified energy company headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. At Sonat, he was the head of Sonat’s interstate natural gas pipeline and energy services businesses.

Rubright was named 2009 Executive Papermaker of the Year by PaperAge, the leading industry publication for paper industry professionals, and 2008 RISI North American CEO of the Year by RISI. He served in 2007 as Chairman of the Board of the American Forest & Paper Association, the national trade association of the forest, pulp, paper, paperboard and wood products industry. Jim is a director of AGL Resources, Inc., an energy company, and Forestar Real Estate Group, Inc., a real estate and natural resources company.
