Boss International's StormNET for storm water management analysis, RiverCAD for floodplain analysis, and WaterNET for water distribution analysis will be integrated with Autodesk's model-based design applications, including AutoCAD Civil 3D. Chris Maeder, former president and chief executive of BOSS International will join Autodesk as an industry solutions manager for the environmental engineering industry.

Jim Lynch, vice president of marketing of AEC solutions at Autodesk, said: "The addition of BOSS International's water, sewer, and storm water analysis technology to the Autodesk portfolio supports Autodesk's commitment to extend the value of our model-based design solutions for conducting simulation and analysis of design performance before projects are built."

Autodesk has been acquiring companies to expand its business. In January, it acquired analysis and simulation software provider Algor for $34m. Last year it acquired BIMWorld, a privately owned company that produces branded building information modeling content, 3D technology developer Softimage from Avid Technology for $35m, and Germany-based Elektro-CAE-Software from Mensch und Maschine Deutschland.

Earlier this month, Autodesk reported an 88% decline in net income to $10.5m for the second quarter 2010 on revenue down 33% at $415m.
