Aug. 28, 2009 (United Press International) -- Miami resident Albert Gonzalez has pleaded guilty to 19 felony counts stemming from the theft of credit card records from various retail chains, records show.
Court documents filed Friday by federal prosecutors show Gonzalez, 28, has pleaded guilty in a Massachusetts indictment for hacking into retail chains' computers and stealing customers' information for a major identity theft ring, The Miami Herald reported.
Among the companies victimized by Gonzalez were TJ Maxx, Barnes & Noble (NYSE:BKS) and OfficeMax. (NYSE:OMX)
Documents show Gonzalez is also prepared to plead guilty to a separate New York indictment accusing him of committing similar computer crimes targeting 11 Dave & Buster's restaurants.
Under the plea deal, prosecutors will seek up 25 years in prison for Gonzalez and force the hacker to forfeit $1.6 million, a Miami condominium and other assets.
The Herald said the deal does not cover a third indictment in New Jersey against Gonzalez stemming from his alleged theft of more than 130 million records. That indictment also targets two unidentified co-defendants.
