Aug. 31, 2009 (United Press International) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the voluntary recall of Chef Pierre-brand lemon meringue pies because of a labeling error.
The Sara Lee Corp. (NYSE:SLE) , which produces Chef Pierre-brand pies, is recalling 4,380 cases of the lemon meringue pies that actually contain chocolate meringue pies. Those pies might contain milk, an undeclared allergen, posing a potential health risk to milk-allergic individuals.
The FDA said the recalled pies, with a date code of 9159 printed on the top of the pie label directly under the Chef Pierre logo, were sold nationwide.
Consumers may return the recalled pies to the store where they were purchased for a refund. Consumers with questions can call 888-891-6100.
