Aug. 31--Two of the men responsible with keeping the lights on in Tarboro are being promoted effective Tuesday, Sept. 1.
Robert Lee "Buddy" Harrison III will become utility director. He has held the interim title since Rick Page retired on Feb. 28 after 23 years on the job.
Bryan Mustard will assume Harrison's duties as electric superintendent. He also has held the job on an interim basis since Page's retirement.
The town advertised for a utility director prior to Page's retirement.
"Buddy was the best candidate," Town Manager Sam Noble said. "He's worked with the town over 20 years, worked well with the men and I think he will be an asset."
Harrison, 45, has worked for the town for 25 years. He has worked his way up from groundman to power line crew leader and was promoted to electrical superintendent in 1996. He will be paid $76,314 per year in his new job.
Harrison is a Tarboro native. He is married and he and his wife Rose have two sons, Lee, 17, and Nicholas, 13.
Mustard, 43 has been with the electric department for 17 years, all on the line crew. He is a Virginia native who worked for Pike Electrical Contractors and ABB before coming to work for the town. He will be paid $58,300 in his new job.
Mustard is married and he and his wife Krissy have a son, Jace, 4.
The town electric department has a $27.3 million budget and consists of 21 men and women: A director, secretary, an electrical superintendent, metering superintendent, two metering and control technicians, 13 linemen, a utility services technician and a warehouse specialist.
The town has five substations, 110 miles of overhead wiring and 20 miles underground wiring.
The town has about 6,000 electrical customers.
