China Telecom H1 Profit Dips 29%

(Source: Datamonitor)trackingChina Telecom has reported a 29% decline in net income to CNY9.05 billion ($1.32 billion) for the first half 2009, compared to net income of CNY12.67 billion ($1.85 billion) a year ago. Revenue was up 14% at CNY103.14 billion ($15.12 billion).

Operating income fell 24% to CNY14.31 billion ($2.09 billion), while EPS fell 31% to CNY0.11 ($0.01). EBITDA was CNY43.33 billion ($6.35 billion) and the EBITDA margin was 42.3%. Free cash flow was CNY19.65 billion ($2.88 billion) during the quarter.

The company said total number of access lines in service decreased 8.99 million to 199 million. The total numbers of wireline broadband customers and wireless internet access customers have increased by 4.78 million and 1.61 million on a net basis, reaching a total of 49.05 million and 3.95 million, respectively.

Wireline voice service revenue declined 19% to CNY41.06 billion ($6.01 billion), while wireline broadband access services revenue increased 18% to CNY22.74 billion ($3.33 billion).
