(Source: Datamonitor)trackingA US federal court has ordered enterprises software provider SAP to pay $138.6m to Texas-based Versata Software for violating five patents of Versata.

The patents in question were granted between 1998 and 2006 and were concerned with methods for configuring systems, pricing products in multilevel product and organizational groups, and multisource transaction processing.

In its complaint, filed in April 2007, Versata (formerly known as Trilogy Software) maintained that SAP's Business Suite products and related services infringed on the patents. The company is still seeking a permanent injunction preventing SAP from infringing on its patents.

Andy Kendzie, spokesman at SAP said: "Our attorneys are reviewing the legal options and we expect to file an appeal. We don't believe this will have any immediate negative impact on our customers."

The German software company is also in the middle of a lengthy lawsuit with rival Oracle, which alleges that SAP's subsidiary TomorrowNow stole and misused Oracle's property by illegally downloading its customer-support materials. This suit is set to be heard by a San Francisco court next year.

Separately, in June 2008, SAP agreed to pay i2 Technologies $83.3m to settle a patent infringement lawsuit.
