NEW YORK - The following stocks were among those that moved substantially or traded heavily Friday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:

NYSE:

Bridgepoint Education Inc., down $2.66 to $15.57

The San Diego-based education company said it expects a federal audit to result in proposed fines and other action.

H&R Block Inc., down 39 cents to $16.62

The nations largest tax preparer lost $133.6 million in the first quarter, the same as a year ago, but results were slightly worse than expected.

Quiksilver Inc., down 50 cents to $2.36

Profit dropped by 53 percent in the clothing and sporting good maker's third quarter, and it forecast a per-share loss for the fourth quarter.

Abercrombie & Fitch Co., down 81 cents to $30.17

An analyst downgraded the teen-focused apparel retailer, saying sales at stores open at least a year are going to continue to weaken.

Esterline Corp., up $5.91 to $36.41

The aerospace and defense contractor posted raised its outlook after a strong third quarter, and an analyst said the company's positive trends will continue.

Elan Corp., down 5 cents to $7.30

A federal judge ruled the drugmaker violated the terms of an agreement with Biogen Idec Inc. to market a multiple sclerosis treatment.

Pentair Inc., up $1.23 to $29.27

An analyst raised his estimates for the company and said cost control and opportunities for growth will help it weather the recession.

NASDAQ:

Ulta Salon, Cosmetics & Fragrance Inc., up $2.51 to $15

A 10 percent gain in sales helped propel the beauty retailer's second-quarter profit past Wall Street expectations.
