NEW YORK - The following stocks were among those that moved substantially or traded heavily Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:

NYSE:

Monsanto Co., down $4.18 at $79.30

The seed maker will lay off more workers than it had originally planned, and warned profit would be at the low end of its guidance.

Procter & Gamble Co., up $2.28 at $56.04

Sales will begin rebounding this fall, the consumer goods maker said, as it cuts prices and sends new value-oriented products to stores.

USEC Inc., up 61 cents at $5.12

The enriched uranium provider signed a contract to supply nearly $1.2 billion worth of uranium to Exelon nuclear power plants.

Talbots Inc., up $1.21 at $8.16

Sales at established stores, a key measure of a retailer's health, could improve at Talbots in the next six months, said a Citi analyst.

Men's Wearhouse Inc., down $2.45 at $25.06

Wall Street analysts had expected a higher third-quarter profit guidance from the men's suit and tuxedo retailer.

Navistar International Corp., down $3.51 at $42.17

The truck and engine maker expects a difficult truck market for the rest of the year, and cut its guidance below Wall Street estimates.

NASDAQ

Skyworks Solutions Inc., up $1.53 at $14.28

Shares hit a multiyear high after the company signaled that demand for its cell phone chips was improving, raising its profit outlook.

UAL Corp., up $1.15 at $7.60

The owner of United Airlines probably won't have to file for bankruptcy protection this winter, a JPMorgan analyst said, upgrading the stock.
