Sep. 11, 2009 (Business Wire) -- Syabas, makers of the award-winning Popcorn Hour network media tank, today announced that Sigma Designs (NASDAQ:SIGM), a leader in digital media processing system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for consumer electronics, will be demonstrating the SMP8643 media processor that powers Syabas’ Popcorn Hour C-200 settop box at this year’s IBC tradeshow. Also at IBC, Eyecon Technologies, developers of the media companion software application, which enables consumers to connect to their content and seamlessly route it to any compatible playback device in the home, will be demonstrating the company’s new video routing software using Syabas’ DAVID (Digital Audio/Video Input Device) platform. Sigma Designs’ booth is 1.D72 and Eyecon Technologies booth is M203.

The Popcorn C-200 is a next-generation Internet settop box that streams digital content from the Internet or its internal hard drive to a television and home stereo.¹ Using Sigma Design’s latest video processor, Syabas is able to support more than 30 video file types, including MPEG 1, 2, 4, AVI, H.264, Xvid, MKV, Windows Media and others. Sigma’s SMP8643 media processor also integrates a wide complement of advanced capabilities for a SoC solution with powerful multimedia processing, robust content security system, multiple on-chip CPUs and a range of on-chip system peripherals.

The DAVID platform is new software development kit (SDK) and over-the-top (OTT) settop device profile that incorporates the ability to develop and deploy applications to the company’s app store portal. Demonstrating their Rich Objects Based Interactive Graphics (ROBIG) and development platform that builds on the tradition of the Media Service Portal API’s that developers have used successfully to date, the SDK, device profile and updated application store are enabling developers, such as Eyecon Technologies, to create compelling high definition interactive applications and content. Developers can sign up for the program at http://www.thedavidbox.com.

“We are honored to be featured in the Sigma Designs and Eyecon Technologies booths at this year’s IBC,” said Syabas COO, Alex Limberis. “The C-200 is the perfect product to showcase the performance of Sigma’s latest video processor, as it’s the only product of its kind to support video bit rates up to 80 megabits per second. And the DAVID platform represents a great opportunity for Eyecon to demonstrate the flexibility of their software content router.
