Spanish oil and gas company Repsol and partners Petrobras and BG Group have discovered oil and gas in block BM-S-9 of Santos Basin, offshore Brazil.
Repsol has said that the discovery was made in the well 4-SPS-66C, known as Abare West, of the Carioca area. The well is 290km from the coast of Sao Paulo, in water 2,163m deep.
The discovering consortium, formed by Repsol with 25% interest, Petrobras with 45% interest and BG Group with 30% interest, is carrying out evaluation work in the area in accordance to the plans submitted to the Brazilian National Petroleum Agency.
The company has said that the Block BM-S-9 is made up of the Guara and Carioca areas. Samples of oil, gas and CO2 found at depths of 5,150m are under analysis.
