How to identify a bull market or bear market?

Bull markets are characterized when the price of securities are steadily rising during a time the market trend is growing. A bear market is when the market condition falls at the same time the price of securities decline substantially.

In order to identify in which direction the market is going it is necessary to determine the price and volume.

To determine the price, investors must look closely at three major indicators: The Dow, S&P 500 and NASDAQ. Using these indicators investors will be able to analyze the market to determine if the market trend is going up or down.

After the price, volume is another important indicator in technical analysis to help investors analyze market activity. A high volume day is when both the prices and volume are up which also makes investors feel more comfortable in purchasing new stock. Whereas, when the market has low prices but there is high volume, this could be a signal that investors are pulling back and trying to get their money out of the market.

By watching the changes in the market closely investors can be ready for any potential market changes which might effect their earnings.
