Sep. 16--The $75 million transformation of Northgate in Terra Linda will include the hip clothier Forever 21, set to occupy one of the largest non-anchor spaces at the newly redone mall, officials said Wednesday.
The new, 28,000-square-foot two-level store will join Swedish clothing giant H&M and Kohl's department store as some of the larger clothing companies to be added to the mall. Kohl's is set to open Sept. 30. The center's other anchors are Macy's, Sears and Century Theatres.
The 725,000-square-foot property, now simply called Northgate, is set to be unveiled in November, with some retailers opening in the spring. Its owner, Santa Monica-based Macerich Co., also owns The Village at Corte Madera. The mall is open during construction.
"The city is looking forward to the opening this fall and we think the public will be pleased with all the new retailers, not to mention the look and feel of the mall," City Manager Ken Nordhoff said.
Also announced Wednesday was the addition of shops such as Mill Valley salon Fingers and Toes/Faces and Places; the pop culture-based teen fashion shop Hot Topic; Northgate Jewelers; Payless ShoeSource; Radio Shack; the comfort shoe store Sole Desire; Stride Rite, retailer of name-brand footwear and wireless provider T-Mobile, plus a new food court and plaza options that include Berry Twist, Shogun Fresh Japanese Grill, Great Steak and Potato Co.
This summer, new apparel stores added include skate and surfer company Tilly's, casual clothing
store Buckle, Children's Place, Shiekh Shoes and Footlocker. Returning to the mall will be GameStop, Sunglass Hut, Lenscrafters, GNC and Verizon Wireless.
Plans also include the restaurants BJ's Brewhouse, Tomatina, Chipotle Mexican Grill and Panera Bread. Combo King, Gymboree, Kohl's, PacSun, Regis Salon, Roadside BBQ, Sbarro, See's Candies, Subway, Vans and Wetzel's Pretzels will be featured as well.
Mall officials said more retailers would be unveiled before the project is complete.
"There's definitely going to be more stores announced," said Kim Choukalas, vice president of leasing for Northgate.
