LYME, N.H., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Symposium Ventures, LLC is pleased to announce that it served as a consultant to TA Associates to assist in gaining an exclusive opportunity to evaluate Vatterott College, which it has agreed to acquire from Wellspring Capital Management in a transaction announced Friday, September 18. The terms have not been disclosed. Symposium is also a co-investor in Vatterott College.
Scott W. Steffey, Symposium's Founder and President and a recognized leader in the education field, has assisted numerous private equity firms, hedge funds and investment banks in connection with investing in privately-held and publicly-traded education companies.
Previously, Mr. Steffey was the Chief Operating Officer of Strayer Education, Inc., which he transformed from a D.C. area university system, into a major international university system by opening new states and campuses along the east coast and west to the Mississippi River, as well as unveiling asynchronous online learning for all programs, which quickly added students from all 50 states and 39 countries around the world.
Prior to his successful expansion of Strayer, Mr. Steffey was the first executive-in-residence at New Mountain Capital, LLC, founded by Steve Klinsky. Steffey and Klinsky successfully targeted Strayer for recapitalization.
Previously, when he was Vice Chancellor of the State University of New York, he founded the Charter Schools Institute, and helped to open New York's first charter schools.
Before that, Mr. Steffey served in senior positions at the Fortune 10 companies of American Express and NYNEX (now Verizon).
Symposium is currently working with Lee Equity Partners, LLC on acquisition opportunities in the Education Industry. Lee Equity, a leading New York private equity investment firm, invests in growth-oriented companies. Lee Equity was founded in 2006 by Thomas H. Lee, who previously led a number of successful consumer and education-related investments such as Snapple, General Nutrition Centers, Houghton Mifflin, and The Learning Company.
