Sep. 23, 2009 (United Press International) -- A home in Kansas City, Mo., that once belonged to H&R Block (NYSE:HRB) co-founder Richard Bloch is being razed to improve the value of the property, an official says.
SolutionsBank President Mark Parman, whose company owns the Ward Parkway property, said the real estate was more valuable without the home were Bloch once lived, The Kansas City (Mo.) Star said Tuesday.
"It was in awful shape and, from our reports, there wasn't any feasible way to rehab the house," said Parman, whose banking group obtained the home in foreclosure in July.
Kansas City Landmarks Commission administrator Bradley Wolf said had been planning to discuss the possibility of adding the 1926 mansion to the Kansas City Register of Historic Places.
Wolf said being considered for addition to the register does not suspend demolition permits, meaning the home would likely be gone before the commission could discuss its possible protection.
The Star said Richard and Annette Bloch purchased the home in 1957, but Annette Bloch put the home up for sale following her husband's death in 2004.
