Sep. 26--Four people were arrested Thursday evening in a SWAT raid that netted a homemade bomb, methamphetamine and stolen property including consumer electronic devices.
Arrested on suspicion of drug possession were Jama Mcleod, 44, Kelly Vanek, 50, Edward Gold, 41, Robert Robinson, 35, all of Vancouver, according to a Clark County Sheriff's Office bulletin.
Acting on information that a suspect with an extensive criminal record lived at 3013 Grand Blvd., the SWAT team at 6:30 p.m. led the raid at the home in the Fourth Plain Village neighborhood.
Mcleod and Vanek live at the residence. Gold lives at 3010 Grand Blvd. and Robinson lives at 3812 R St. Inside, investigators found the bomb and called in the Portland Metro Explosives Disposal Unit. Bomb technicians removed the explosive and disposed of it, the bulletin said.
Investigators described the bomb as "substantial." It was about the size of a coffee cup and was wrapped in black electrical tape with a fuse sticking out, said sheriff's Sgt. Duncan Hoss with the sheriff's Tactical Detective Unit.
The case began with an investigation by Detective Bill Sofianos with the unit.
Smoke in store prompts fire call
A report of smoke and tripped electricity breakers prompted a fire call to the Tuesday Morning retail store in Hazel Dell shortly after 1 p.m. Friday.
The store, in the JM Plaza shopping center, specializes in discount and close-out merchandise. According to radio traffic monitored at The Columbian, employees reported light smoke and an electrical problem.
Clark County Fire District 6 responded.
