Sep. 27--AMERICUS -- Sometimes it is just one of the those weeks were you do not feel like cooking. Whether it be work wearing you down, or your just sore from all that life has thrown at you for that week, all you know is that you need at least one break to get you through the week and into the bliss of the weekend. For those in Americus, an oasis during these times sits in the back row of the Americus Village Shopping Center, and has been cooking up your favorite pizza, sandwiches, and even Tex-Mex fare for the past 14 years.
Roman Oven Pizzeria offers its customers a wide variety of good food in a great atmosphere. If it so happens that you would rather not leave the comfort of your sofa that night, then the restaurant also delivers. Store owner Anthony Dragoin said, "We are starting to use 'Your delivery connection'. We are trying to be there for those customers who say, 'I have already ordered pizza this week, but I'm still hungry, I'm still tired and I don't want to leave the house, so now, what can I get?"
Roman Oven is not only offering a delivery connection to its customers, but are also connected through Facebook. The social networking site was brought to the attention of Dragoin by a customer, and since then a Roman Oven fan page was born. "A couple of years ago one of my customers was asking me about Facebook, and she was shocked that I didn't really know about it," said Dragoin. "Social networking to me, was just some random idea, but this has really done well."
The Roman Oven fan page is now nearing 2,000 fans which is a big feat for the small town pizzeria. "I'm so excited there are 2,000 fans," said Dragoin. "I think Showbiz tonight, they were announcing last night that they were happy to have their 25,000 fan. That's national television, I mean we got 10 percent of what they got. I mean, I'm sure they just started last week, but its a great thing."
Along with the page, Dragoin is also rolling out new specials weekly in order to entice customers to give his pizza a try. "We just started the early bird special, which is if you come in Monday through Saturday from 11 to 11:30 you get $1 off an adult buffet," said Dragoin. "We also have a regular 3-topping pizza special going on right now for $5.99."
"The business is going well. We have seen really good business in spite of the economic downturn. We are just trying to keep it good, fast, and relatively inexpensive, and that seems to be working out for us. We are now on our 14th year in the business. We have about 19 employees, and we are the only place in town that use brick ovens. We always strive to be a cut above the rest," Dragoin said.
Roman Oven Pizzeria is located in the Americus Village Shopping Center. It is open Monday through Wednesday from 11:00 am until 9:00 PM and Thursday through Saturday from 11:00 am until 10:00 PM.
