Sep. 28, 2009 (Business Wire) -- Coventry, the leading life settlements provider in the United States, will be a major sponsor of Climate Change at a Crossroads, an evening benefitting The Tropics Foundation and focusing on global climate change and related issues. Other major sponsors of the September 29th event include Dewey and LeBoeuf and Weyerhaeuser Company. The event will be hosted by Dewey and LeBoeuf at their offices in New York City.
Wayne Reece, President of The Tropics Foundation, will present the organization’s 2009 President’s Award to Weyerhaeuser Company in recognition of their generous contributions to The Tropics Foundation supporting CATIE. Weyerhaeuser and The Tropics Foundation have created an endowment fund at the University of Idaho supporting joint studies by graduate students in natural resource management and climate change. The award recognizes the alignment of CATIE’s mission with Weyerhaeuser’s long history in practicing sustainable forestry.
Among the participating supporters will be state insurance commissioners and special guests Commissioner Joel Ario of Pennsylvania and Commissioner Mike Kreidler of Washington. Dr. Alvaro Umaña, who will lead Costa Rica’s delegation to the Copenhagen world climate conference in December, will be a featured speaker sharing insights on climate change and its real-world impacts.
In addition to Commissioner Kreidler, The Tropics Foundation’s nationally prominent board includes Patricia Britton, general counsel of Porsche Cars North America, and Joe Gunset, general counsel of Lloyd’s America.
The Tropics Foundation is a charitable organization created to support sustainable development and conservation of the environment throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. The Tropics Foundation raises funds for and supports the programs of CATIE (pronounced CAH-tee-ay), a research and graduate university dedicated to promoting competitive and sustainable agriculture and natural resource management through higher education, research, and technical cooperation.
