Enterprise software provider Tibco Software has reported a 35% decline in net income at $14.9m for the third quarter 2009, compared to a net income of $11.1m in the corresponding quarter last year. Revenue was down 7% at $150.3m.
The company said operating income was $20.5m compared to an operating income of $15.3m in the same period last year. Diluted EPS increased to $0.09 from $0.06 in the same quarter last year. The company closed 85 deals over $100,000 and 17 deals over $1m. Cash and cash equivalents at the end of the quarter was $285m.
During the quarter, license revenue fell 15% to $57.2m, while services and maintenance revenue fell 2% to $93m.
The company formed an alliance with HP to provide SOA governance offerings. The company acquired privately-held enterprise grid and cloud computing software provider DataSynapse for approximately $28m to complement its strategy and products for distributed software infrastructure and cloud computing.
Vivek Ranadive, chairman and chief executive at Tibco, said: "Despite macroeconomic headwinds and typical Q1 seasonality, we delivered strong operating profits and EPS this quarter. We continue to see opportunity ahead as companies look increasingly towards infrastructure software to drive greater IT efficiency, but we are also managing our business carefully so as to protect margins and returns to shareholders."
