SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Three new members have been elected to Blue Shield of California's Board of Directors: Alan Fohrer, Evelyn Dilsaver and Hector Flores, M.D. They replace outgoing board members Aliza Lifshitz, M.D., Tom McKernan and Bob Reid, M.D.

Fohrer is the chairman and chief executive officer of Southern California Edison, one of the country's largest electric utilities. He began his career at Edison and held several leadership positions at the company, including president and chief executive officer of Edison Mission Energy, and executive vice president and chief financial officer of parent company Edison International and Southern California Edison. Fohrer also serves on the board of directors of the San Gabriel Valley Council Boy Scouts of America, California Science Center, and the California Chamber of Commerce. Fohrer received his bachelor's and master's degree in engineering from the University of Southern California a master's degree in business administration from California State University, Los Angeles.
Dilsaver joins Blue Shield's board with an extensive background in the financial sector. She is the retired president and chief executive officer of Charles Schwab Investment Management, where she was responsible for all facets of the business--from portfolio management to product development, sales, operations and technology. Previously, Dilsaver was a controller for First Nationwide Bank and for the Charles Schwab Corporation, and also served as chief financial officer and chief administrative officer for U.S. Trust, a wealth management subsidiary of Charles Schwab. She also serves on the boards of Tamalpais Bank, Aeropostale, High Mark Funds, The Commonwealth Club, Women's Initiative and Bishop O'Dowd High School. Dilsaver holds a bachelor's degree from California State University, Hayward and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Dr. Flores serves as the medical director of the Family Care Specialists Medical Group and chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at White Memorial Medical Center. He is a founding member and co-director of the hospital's Family Medicine Residency Program, which is highly regarded for its ability to recruit and retain family physicians in medically underserved areas. Dr. Flores served on President Clinton's Health Care Task Force Hispanic Advisory Committee and recently co-Chaired the Los Angeles Healthcare Options Task Force that developed strategies for local health care reform. He is a founding member of the California Latino Medical Association and is actively engaged in statewide workforce diversity initiatives. Dr. Flores graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor's degree in History and attended the University of California, Davis School of Medicine where he earned his medical degree.
