MONTREAL, Oct. 2 /CNW Telbec/ - Suncor Energy and Joseph Elie ltd
are happy to announce the planting of 350 trees and bushes at the
Pointe-aux-Trembles refinery, along the Metropolitan service road
and on Saint Jean-Baptiste Boulevard.
"We respect the promise we made to our customers", says Roland
Proulx, General Manager of Joseph Elie, "to plant a tree with the
purchase of an Energy Star Heating oil furnace. The refinery seemed
like a logical and ideal place, not only to improve the visual
environment but also to offset green house gases."
A tree planting ceremony was held at 10 am on October 1st, 2009
along Metropolitan Boulevard with Suncor Energy, Joseph Elie,
municipal and, due to Suncor's community involvement, members of Les
Scouts du Montreal metropolitain.
The Suncor (formally Petro-Canada) refinery in Pointes-aux-
Trembles employs more than 380 workers and processes 130,000 barrels
of heavy oil a day. "We are proud to join forces with Joseph Elie
for this project that fits perfectly within Montreal's sustainable
development plan. Furthermore this project targets a lowering of
green house gases emissions and a reduction of urban heat islands,"
says Bruno Francoeur, the refinery Vice-President.

About Joseph Elie Ltd
Joseph Elie Ltd is the oldest distributor or heating oil in
Quebec and the largest heating company owned by Petro-Canada in the
country. Established in 1893 by Mr. Joseph Elie, who was then only
19 years old, the business was little more than a lumberyard where
Joseph sold coal and firewood. In 1926, with the emergence of the
fuel product industry, Joseph Elie began importing oil. Over the
years, Joseph Elie Ltd became a prosperous family business. Gaston
Elie sold the company to a Belgian firm called Petrofina before
being finally acquired by Petro-Canada. Today Joseph Elie provides
residential, commercial and industrial clients of the Greater
Montreal with quality products while proposing the latest energy
efficiency solutions.
