Oct. 6--A one-car wreck that occurred Friday around 9 p.m. left several homes without power and the driver of the vehicle in jail for driving while intoxicated.
Kerrville police officer Zach Martin responded to the call in the 800 block of Tivy Street for a single-car wreck.
Martin observed a maroon Toyota 4runner stopped in the road with "severe damage." Residents were outside their homes because the vehicle ran into a power pole and cut power to homes in the area.
Martin found the driver, a 27-year-old woman, sitting under a tree near the crash site. The officer noted a strong odor of alcohol coming from her breath, and she was "very disoriented." She told officers she was on her way home, but, due to her disorientation, Martin had to tell her she had been involved in a wreck.
Martin noticed a loss of balance and asked if the woman needed EMS, which she declined.
The officer conducted field sobriety tests and believed she "was without normal (faculties) because of alcohol."
The driver was arrested and sent to the Kerr County Jail.
The Kerrville Public Utility Board was notified, and they sent someone to restore power. An estimate of the damages had not been submitted by press time.
The case has been forwarded to the Kerr County Attorney's Office.
