New CEO Brings 25 Years of Washington Experience to Natural Gas Champion

WASHINGTON, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Clean Skies Foundation (ACSF) today announced that Gregory C. Staple, a former partner at the international law firm Vinson & Elkins, will assume the role of CEO of ACSF in December 2009. Mr. Staple, an expert on federal regulatory matters, co-directed Vinson & Elkins' Washington, D.C., climate change program before joining ACSF this autumn as its senior policy advisor. Mr. Staple has written widely on pending cap-and-trade legislation to regulate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and related proposals. His essays have appeared in more than 50 publications, including The Environmental Law Forum, Legal Times of Washington and The American Journal of International Law.

Aubrey K. McClendon, chairman of the foundation and CEO of Chesapeake Energy Corporation said, "Greg's extensive regulatory background and familiarity with the key energy and environmental issues being debated in Washington will be a huge plus for the foundation. In recent months, the national media have recognized that America's abundant current and future supplies of natural gas will be a 'game changer' for the country's environmental, energy and national security policies, and we want ACSF to continue its leadership role in discussing these issues in the years ahead."

"It is an honor to assume the leadership of ACSF at such a critical time in the nation's debate on climate and energy matters," said Mr. Staple. "Since 2008, Clean Skies News, an energy and environment network sponsored by ACSF, has become a leading resource. Now the challenge is to build up ACSF's policy and regulatory expertise, and then turn our ideas into action," he continued. "Together, with our growing partnerships and friends in the renewable energy and environmental communities, I know that we can provide many of the energy answers to the questions Americans are asking of their leaders in Washington and elsewhere."

The network's unique online interviews and archival footage captured in "Countdown to Copenhagen" has become one of the foundation's most widely-used resources.
