Ciena Offers to Acquire Nortel's Metro Ethernet Business

(Source: Datamonitor)trackingNetwork platforms, software, and services provider Ciena has offered to acquire all of the optical networking and carrier Ethernet assets of Nortel's Metro Ethernet Networks (MEN) business.

The company said it is in advanced discussions with Nortel. The outcome of the talks is uncertain and subject to negotiation of definitive agreements. Financial terms of the offer were not disclosed.

Last month, the company announced a strategic partnership with Canadian communications solutions company MTS Allstream to launch the next generation of managed wavelength services across Canada.

Last year, it acquired privately held Ethernet applications provider World Wide Packets for approximately $285m to accelerate the implementation and time-to-market of its carrier Ethernet portfolio.
