Nuance Acquires Document Imaging Software Firm for $54m

(Source: Datamonitor)trackingSpeech recognition software vendor Nuance Communications has acquired document imaging software provider eCopy for $54m to expand its multifunction printer (MFP) portfolio.

The company said the acquisition will combine its MFP desktop solutions and eCopy's server offerings to deliver network scanning solutions that connect the widest range of MFPs to a broad set of business applications and content management systems.

The company said eCopy's network scanning solutions are offered by Canon, HP, Konica Minolta, Oce, Ricoh, Toshiba and Xerox, and its solutions support document connectivity to more than 100 enterprise applications including Microsoft SharePoint, EMC Documentum, Oracle and SAP.

The combined entity will provide premier desktop and server products, strong OEM channels, expanded reach for desktop solutions, and enhanced user experience. The acquisition will be accretive on a non-GAAP basis in Nuance's fiscal 2010.

Robert Weideman, general manager and senior vice president at Nuance Document Imaging Division, said: "Nuance and eCopy share a vision of connecting MFP devices to a wide range of applications in an easy and productive way."

In July Nuance acquired Seattle, Washington-based mobile voice-to-text services provider Jott Networks for an undisclosed sum to expand its market reach and its voice services portfolio for mobile operators and enterprise customers.
