Oct. 8, 2009 (United Press International) -- A San Diego Chargers season-ticket holder sued the team and the city in Superior Court as well as a fan who allegedly punched him, team officials said.
Patrick Cronin said he was punched in the face by a fan who was not controlled by either the team or the city even after numerous complaints were filed against him, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
Cronin said he had complained previously about Donald Eugene Etheridge, an English teacher at Mission Vista High in Vista.
"There have been many complaints about this individual (Etheridge) in the past, not just from Mr. Cronin, but from others around him, and nobody did anything about it," said Ted Khalaf, Cronin's attorney.
"It was neglected, to the point where people with season tickets stopped going to games because of this individual. My client has stopped going because of this individual."
Etheridge denied that and said Cronin was agitating other fans in their section by scalping his tickets to fans of the opposing teams.
Cronin said Sept. 30, 2007, at the city's Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) Stadium, Etheridge was trying to entice him into a fight. When Cronin refused, he said Etheridge hit him.
The Chargers refused to comment on the suit.
