Oct. 13, 2009 (PR Newswire) --
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. and MARKHAM, Ontario, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Robocom Systems International, a global provider of Supply Chain Execution Software announced today that Moen Incorporated, a Fortune Brands Company (NYSE: FO), has decreased the cost of each carton shipped by 20% through the use of Robocom's warehouse management solutions (WMS). In a case study on the use of Robocom's WMS, Moen's Kinston, NC and Las Vegas, NV distribution centers have reduced the cost of each carton shipped by 20%, increased order volume by 10%, achieved inventory accuracy of 99.8% and eliminated their annual physical inventory while growing revenue by 70% to over $1 billion per year.
Bob Smith, Distribution Manager for Moen explains: "Moen was a company that was on the move in terms of growth in sales units and dollars. The wholesale market that supplies new construction was growing and our retail unit was beginning to take root. We were a $300 million a year sales company in 1992 and our goal was to become a $1 billion company by 2000. The business realized that we could not sustain our high level of service--one of our major competitive advantages--with the manual processes we were currently operating under."
Because Moen's inventory accuracy is so high, the company is no longer required to perform a wall-to-wall inventory. "The finance department of Fortune Brands, our parent company, said that if we could keep our inventory accuracy above 98.5% we wouldn't have to do a wall-to-wall inventory--a tedious and laborious process that required all hands on deck for an entire weekend. Since going live with RIMS, inventory accuracy in Kinston is 99.4% and Las Vegas is at 99.5%. Neither of our facilities has done a wall-to-wall inventory since the implementation--not for 18 years in Las Vegas and 17 years in Kinston," says Smith.
Glenn Schlau, Director, Distribution and Transportation, says that "Moen's North America distribution operation is perceived by Moen's executives as one of the best performing business units within Moen Operations. Senior Management knows they can count on us to meet our customer demands and to hit our goals and metrics. They are very comfortable with our performance and strategy so they don't spend a lot of energy worrying about our operation."
"Robocom continues our strong focus on the needs of the business leaders responsible for the day-to-day results in warehousing and distribution center operations," said Fred Radcliffe, Robocom President. "The outstanding results achieved by Moen are proof of the value that our software delivers and the importance of our focus. Our team continues to deliver the tools that Supply Chain leaders need to realize the cost savings that are being demanded of them in today's tough economic environment."
