Oct. 13--Though we'll likely get a break from showers for the most of the morning and afternoon, keep an umbrella handy because more rainfall is in store for Aiken this week, possibly even tonight.

John Lynn, a meteorologist with WJBF News 6, said Monday's showers could produce record rainfall amounts in the area for the month.

On Monday, more than 2.5 inches of rain fell in Aiken, according to the Aiken Standard weather station. Daniel Field saw nearly 2.5 inches Monday afternoon, and Augusta received 1.5 inches, said Lynn. He said the heavy rainfall is because of a front that has stalled on the Gulf Coast.

The National Weather Service's forecast called for an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain Monday evening. Rises in rivers and streams and some puddling on roads were expected.

The rain is welcome for some as 20 counties in the state are listed as being in an incipient drought. Incipient is the first stage of drought and means conditions are favorable for a drought to occur. They include Greenwood, Spartanburg, Anderson, Laurens, Abbeville, Greenville, McCormick, Edgefield, Saluda, Newberry, Union, Cherokee, York, Chester, Dillon, Chesterfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Marlboro and Fairfield counties.

Today's forecast calls for cloudy skies with a high near 71 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. There will be a 50 percent chance of showers after 2 p.m. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch are possible.

Showers are expected tomorrow, as well, with the forecast calling for a 90 percent chance of showers and a high near 63 degrees.

On Wednesday night, the possibility of rain drops to 40 percent with a low of 54 degrees. New rainfall amounts between 1 to 2 inches are possible on Wednesday.

Thursday's forecast calls for cloudy skies and a high near 67 degrees and a low of 57 degrees. There is a 50 percent chance of rain.

On Friday, expect cloudy skies with a 30 percent chance of showers. The sun will return for the weekend with the National Weather Service calling for sunny skies on Saturday and Sunday with a high near 68 degrees.
