Pepsi iPhone app spawns backlash
Wednesday, October 14, 2009 12:49 AM

Pepsi calls the application "AMP Up Before You Score" and calls it a "roadmap to success with your favorite kinds of women," ABC News reported.

The app lists 24 categories of women and provides links, lists and other assistance once the user decides which he is interested in. There is also a Brag List feature and users are encouraged to share their lists with friends by e-mail, Twitter or other electronic means.

But many women do not appreciate the humor. Jezebel, a women's blog, called the app "unacceptable and ridiculously offensive."

The app has also spawned a hash tag on Twitter, pepsifail.

"Until app removed I'm guessing PepsiCo (NYSE:PEP) CEO Indra Nooyi advising her daughter to avoid boys with iPhones," one non-fan tweeted.

Pepsi issued an apology of sorts Monday, saying it was trying "2 show the humorous lengths guys to 2 pick up women."
