InEnTec LLC today said it is honored to be chosen as a finalist for the
2009 Platts Global Energy Awards. InEnTec's PEMTM
gasification technology, which converts municipal, industrial, chemical
and other waste streams into clean fuels like hydrogen or ethanol, has
been nominated for "Sustainable Technology Innovation of the Year." In
addition, by being named a finalist, InEnTec LLC automatically becomes a
candidate for "Energy Company of the Year," an award which will be
chosen from the entire list of finalists.
The Platts Global Energy Awards are one of the most recognized awards
programs in the energy industry. The annual awards recognize innovation
and leadership in categories spanning the industry -- from new
technologies to conservation initiatives. This year, Platts underscores
the changing emphasis of global energy toward both long-term and
environment-conscious supply solutions. InEnTec LLC was picked as a
finalist from among a record number of nominees in sustainable
technologies, energy efficiency and green initiatives.
"InEnTec's PEMTM gasification technology offers a new
paradigm for waste processing and alternative fuel production," said
InEnTec's CEO Karl Schoene. "I am honored and excited that Platts has
recognized us as an organization with the potential to have an impact on
the sustainability of our planet."
PEMTM systems commercialized by InEnTec can be used with
virtually any waste product as feedstock. They produce an ultra clean
synthesis gas (syngas), which can be processed into clean transportation
fuels such as ethanol and synthetic diesel, valuable products such as
hydrogen and methanol, or can be used as a clean substitute for natural
gas to produce electricity.
The first commercial deployment of InEnTec's PEMTM technology
at a U.S. chemical facility is now in start-up phase at Dow Corning
Corporation's plant in Midland, Michigan. The PEMTM will
recycle chlorosilane residuals into process-quality aqueous hydrochloric
acid (HCl), a raw material used in the manufacture of silicones, and
millions of BTUs of clean synthesis gas per hour that will substitute
for natural gas to produce steam.
An InEnTec PEMTM unit will also be used to convert municipal
solid waste to ethanol for cars and trucks in the first commercial-scale
production facility of its kind in the U.S. at a plant near Reno,
Nevada. The plant, owned by Fulcrum BioEnergy and scheduled to open in
2010, will process 90,000 tons of solid waste annually and produce 10.5
million gallons of ethanol.
The winners of the 2009 Platts Global Energy Awards will be announced at
a dinner and awards ceremony Thursday, December 3, in New York City. The
event, being held at the Cipriani Wall Street, is expected to draw more
than 500 senior energy executives from around the world.
About InEnTec LLC
Based in Bend, Oregon, InEnTec LLC was formed by scientists and
engineers from MIT and Battelle. Through its proprietary gasification
system, the Plasma Enhanced Melter, InEnTec can transform municipal
(household), commercial, medical, and most industrial and hazardous
wastes into clean renewable syngas that can be used to produce products,
such as electric energy, ethanol, methanol and hydrogen, with minimal
environmental impact. InEnTec's systems meet all environmental standards
and come closer to 100% recycling of waste than any other such
commercially available technology. For more information please visit www.inentec.com
