Oct. 15, 2009 (Business Wire) -- Questar Capital (Questar) a division of Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America (Allianz), announced Alex Barned as the new Chief Distribution Officer. In the new position, Barned will be responsible for enhancing the image and credibility of the Questar brand in the independent broker/dealer community and attracting registered reps to the firm. Barned has nearly 20 years of experience in the financial services industry.

Barned comes to Questar from UBS Financial Services where he most recently served as Executive Director of the Minneapolis market, responsible for five Minnesota offices and millions of dollars in revenue. Prior to UBS, he held several executive positions with Salomon Smith Barney in both Washington D.C. and New York City.

A Washington, D.C. native, Barned moved to Minneapolis in 2008. He earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and master’s degree in criminal justice from The George Washington University.
