Oct. 16--High Street greeting cards seller Clinton Cards today revealed
plans to take on successful online cards retailer Moonpig.com by launching its
own customised cards website.
The announcement came as Clinton posted an annual pre-tax profit of £24.1
million, up from £22 million in 2008.
Chief executive Clinton Lewin said the retailer wanted to expand its
800-store estate on the High Street, and "take on new technology too".
He said: "Clinton will launch personalised cards online within the next
financial year.
"We're also going into mobile marketing, with an iPhone application.
"In 10 years' time we'll still be on the High Street, but we'll be big
online too."
