- Nigel Pendse Presents the Palo Award. A Canadian Oil Company Demonstrates the Best Use of the Business Intelligence and Corporate Performance Management Software, Palo.

The Canadian oil company Talisman Energy received the 2009 Palo Award for best application using Palo. The company uses a Palo-based budget performance management system to guide its investment in the reclamation of retired assets. Other finalists included communications provider Arcor, which uses Palo in its sales reporting, and Compass Group Deutschland, the market leader in catering and food services. Compass Group manages around 800 manufacturing facilities using a central reporting platform based on Palo.

The jury for the 2009 Palo Award consisted of Nigel Pendse, software analyst and publisher of BI Survey, Jedox CEO Kristian Raue and Thomas Seeler, head of corporate controlling at Dystar, who also received the Best Practice Award for Business Intelligence at CeBit 2009 for his Palo-based controlling application.

All three solutions featured high-usability by simplifying work processes and improving information quality. The decisive factor for the jury, however, was that the Palo-based budget performance management system is used by the Talisman Energy Reclamation and Remediation team to analyze real-time budget information to rapidly prioritize, control and reduce spending during the current economic downturn. The solution was developed and implemented by Canadian Jedox partner GRID Dynamics. All the solutions presented featured short implementation times and focused on delivering 'quick wins' by being implemented as small projects.

The Palo Award is awarded for the most extraordinary, innovative and useful Palo-based solutions. It is also aimed specifically at users who employ Palo as a purely open source solution without support from Jedox or other Palo partners. By sponsoring the competition, Jedox hopes to offer the open source community a platform for bringing freely developed solutions to more users.
