Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) today announced that its Converged Packet Gateway (CPG) has been named a recipient of the 2009 4GWE LTE Visionary Award by Technology Marketing Corporation (TMC), a global integrated media company, in conjunction with Crossfire Media.
Ericsson's Converged Packet Gateway (CPG), part of the company's comprehensive Evolved Packet Core offering, enables operators to offer cost-effective broadband services to fixed and mobile subscribers. The CPG is currently being deployed in the world's first LTE offerings from Verizon, TeliaSonera and MetroPCS. The 4GWE LTE Visionary Award honors products that demonstrate the planning and vision of delivering wireless broadband services.
"Ericsson's achievements in advancing 4G through LTE development is worthy of being selected as recipient of the 4GWE LTE Visionary Award," said Carl Ford, co-founder and community developer, Crossfire Media. "Ericsson is an innovator and one to watch for the next evolution of solutions."
"As operators continue to transform their networks to IP and introduce bandwidth intensive services, it's imperative they deliver a seamless and consistent user-experience across fixed and mobile networks," said Melih Tufan, Head of Packet Networks, IP & Broadband at Ericsson. "We are happy to accept this 4G industry award which comes on the heels of the real-world validation we've already received from the first network operators to deploy LTE. The CPG plays a central role in next generation converged networks that will support the 50 billion connections we expect by 2020."
Ericsson's CPG supports mobility between LTE and interworking with WCDMA/GSM networks as well as non-3G access networks, such as fixed wireless and Wireless LAN. This allows for a smooth implementation and gradual transition to a common core network for mobile and fixed broadband. The CPG is based on Ericsson's proven 480Gbit/s throughput SmartEdge 1200 platform, providing the telecom-quality reliability operators demand.
"It is an honor to bestow Ericsson with this award. Their contribution toward the future of mobile broadband is commendable," stated Rich Tehrani, CEO, TMC. "I look forward to more innovation from Ericsson in the future."
