(Source: Commercial Appeal, The)trackingExcerpts from Tuesday's story comments:

One toddler dead, one critical after South Memphis fire

Where are these children's father(s)? These children did not come into this world by themselves. I agree with every one of these comments. How on earth can a mother leave her precious babies? It was also mentioned by one of the neighbors that this woman had left her babies alone before. Why wasn't her actions reported to the authorities?

- memphisblueslady

The scope of the problem is so huge - there are people who are not ready or able to take care of kids. When they start making justifications, they'll have to deal with the fact that one of the adults could have stayed there while the other went shopping. Worse, what a pretty day for the kids to have gotten out with them. The whole thing is so, so sad it is hard to think about.

Memphis police: Mother won't be charged yet in deadly South Memphis fire

This is a wise thing to do because a solid investigation in this case could mean the difference between a misdemeanor or a lower felony charge and multiple higher felony charges.

I know everyone is extremely sad and angry, but we don't live in a Law & Order: SVU episode.

Remember this when Gibbons runs for governor. If he doesn't care about the poor, innocent children, he certainly won't care about the rest of us.

Herman Morris to be nominated as city attorney by Lowery

Same old tired, worn-out, self-serving scabs being appointed to city jobs by the other pigs at the trough. I do not see anything changing for Memphis. Thank GOD the gangsta suit Wharton is out of Shelby County government. ... Memphis, you elected him, you got him. Your tax increases are coming quickly, enjoy.

- garybusby_2000

You know, I could be cynical and say this is payback for Morris not running this time around . but who cares? Morris is a great choice. Things DO seem to be looking up.

6 Memphis ZIPs may get zap of utility information

I don't like it. Not because of its good points but because of its bad ones. It puts a price tag on when you use energy - charging most people more because they live normal daylight & early evening lives and others less because they happen to be night owls. Also, it is another monitor of activity in my own home which is nobody's business.

- Mr_Kite

This will result in higher bills for those being singled out for this program. Alliant Energy has started this "Smart Grid" program in my home state of Wisconsin and most everyone I have talked to has experienced higher bills. ... This is how the utility companies choose to address the energy shortage instead of building expensive, but needed, power plants.

- techimnot

First of all this has nothing to do with privacy. The generators at the power plant (as well as the power supply on your computer) run most efficiently (less costly) at a certain load. When more electricity is demanded it becomes less efficient (more costly). ... With the smart meter, the people that are driving up costs will pay more, those who are not will pay less. Fair enough?
