BUENOS AIRES -- The Argentine government announced a package of fiscal control measures on Thursday, including the use of electronic bills for sales of imported goods, second-hand car sales and hotel operations.

The announcement was made by the Director of the Argentine Federal Administration of Public Revenues (AFIP) Ricardo Echegaray, who was accompanied by Argentine Economy Minister Amado Boudou and Justice Minister Julio Alak. (Argentina-Fiscal Plan)

NEW YORK -- The New York Times Co. (NYSE:NYT) , the publisher of The New York Times, The Boston Globe and The International Herald-Tribune, reported a small loss on Thursday.

The loss came to 35.6 million U.S. dollars, or 25 cents per share, compared with a 106.3-million-dollar loss, or 74 cents a share in the same quarter a year ago. (New York Times-Loss)

LONDON -- Britain's retail sales volumes in September were flat compared with the previous month, but weaker than the market expectations for a rise of 0.5 percent, according to the data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) here on Thursday.

The data have stagnated for the second month. But compared with the same period of last year, the retail sales witnessed an annual growth of 2.4 percent, also below analysts' forecast of 2.8 percent. (Britain-Retail Sales)

KATHMANDU -- The World Bank (WB) has agreed to provide a grant worth more than 100 million U.S. dollars to the government of Nepal for blacktopping of roads connecting remote districts of the country's far western and mid-western regions.

According to an official at the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works (MPPW), the government had asked the WB for 175 million dollars. (Nepal-Road)
