Lilly Q3 Net Income Up

(Source: Datamonitor)trackingEli Lilly and Company has reported a net income of $941.8 million, or $0.86 per share, for the third quarter ended September 30, 2009, compared to a net loss of $465.6 million, or $0.43 per share, for the third quarter ended September 30, 2008.

Total revenues were $5.56 billion for the third quarter of 2009, compared to $5.21 billion for the same quarter of 2008.

Net income for the nine months ended September 30, 2009 was $3.41 billion, or $3.11 per share, compared to $1.56 billion, or $1.42 per share, for the nine months ended September 30, 2008.

Total revenues were $15.9 billion for the nine months ended September 30, 2009, compared to $15.2 billion, for the prior-year period.

John Lechleiter, chairman and CEO of Lilly, said: "Lilly continues to deliver very solid financial results. Our performance in the third quarter once again was driven by volume-based sales growth, improving gross margins and tight control of operating expenses, allowing us to deliver very attractive earnings growth.

"These results are evidence of the strength of our current operations as we implement our new operating model, streamline our organization and take measures to accelerate the flow of new medicines through our pipeline."
