Oct. 23, 2009 (Business Wire) -- The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA, www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org) provided services and resources in the third quarter to 25 businesses that will create 2,022 jobs in Fairfax County. These companies include Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), which announced in September that it relocated its corporate headquarters to Fairfax County from San Diego and will create 1,200 jobs in the next three years.
Like SAIC, many of the other firms that worked with the FCEDA are American and foreign-owned firms in the information technology and professional services sectors. They include:
- Business consultant PricewaterhouseCoopers, which will create 200 jobs in Fairfax County.
- Digital imaging equipment and software reseller Meridian Imaging Solutions, which will add 90 jobs.
- Communications service provider Cbeyond, which will create 89 jobs.
- Business intelligence, systems engineering and management consultancy Guident, which will add 80 jobs.
“We are proud to have worked with SAIC to relocate its headquarters operation to Fairfax County, but we also are proud to have worked in the quarter with 25 companies that are creating jobs here,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the FCEDA. “This underscores the strength of the economy in Fairfax County compared to virtually every other area of the country,”
“As a leading provider of business intelligence and systems engineering solutions to the federal government, Guident selected Fairfax County due to its proximity to our customer base and the talent pool available in this area,” said Teddy Matheu, Guident executive vice president and partner. “We have realized tremendous growth, generating revenues of $34 million in 2008 and achieving a 30 percent yearly growth rate, which is a direct result of our success within this marketplace.”
Time magazine called Fairfax County, just outside Washington, D.C., “one of the great economic success stories of our time.” Business growth helps Fairfax County fund public services such as a top-ranked public school system that improve the quality of life. Fairfax County offers a well-educated workforce, diverse real estate opportunities, access to domestic and international markets through Washington Dulles International Airport, and a business community based on technology and professional services.
